Read the given passage and select the correct inferences from the information provided in it.
In liquids, the molecules are not packed as close together as in solids. There are spaces between the molecules. So, they can move around more freely. When sugar is dissolved in water, the sugar molecules fill these empty spaces.

    Inference:
    (i) When sugar dissolves in water, the volume of water increases.
(ii) Liquid has no definite shape and volume.
    (iii) Liquid can flow.
(iv) When all the empty spaces between the water molecules are filled with sugar molecules, then no more sugar can be dissolved.

    A) (i) and (iii) only

    B) (ii) and (iii) only

    C) (i) and (iv) only

    D) (iii) and (iv) only

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

As the molecules in the liquid have spaces between them, therefore, it can flow freely. When all the empty spaces between the water molecules are filled with sugar molecules, then no more sugar can be dissolved as no more space would be left for the sugar molecules.
