    Solution :

    [b] Given, the distance between the points \[(4,k)\] and \[(1,0)\] is 5.
    \[\therefore \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\sqrt{{{(1-4)}^{2}}+{{(0-k)}^{2}}}=5\]
    Squaring on both sides, we get
    \[{{(-3)}^{2}}+{{(-k)}^{2}}={{(5)}^{2}}\]
    \[\Rightarrow \,\,\,\,\,\,9+{{k}^{2}}=25\Rightarrow {{k}^{2}}=16\Rightarrow k=\pm 4\]
    So, the values of k are \[-4\] and 4.
