If a circle and a square have the same perimeter, then the

    A)  circle and the square have equal area

    B)  circle have larger area than the square

    C)  square has larger area than the circle

    D)  area of the square is double that of the circle

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

If p be the common perimeter, then Radius of the circle \[=\frac{P}{2\pi }\]and     its area \[=\pi {{\left[ \frac{p}{(2\pi )} \right]}^{2}}=\frac{{{p}^{2}}}{4\pi }\] Each side of the square \[=\frac{p}{4},\]and     its area \[=\frac{{{p}^{2}}}{16}\] Area of the circle : Area of the square\[=\frac{{{p}^{2}}}{4\pi }:\frac{{{p}^{2}}}{16}=4:\pi >1\] \[\therefore \] Circle have larger area than the square.
