A solid iron rectangular block of dimensions 4.4 m, 2.6 m and 1 m is cast into a hollow cylindrical pipe of internal radius 30 cm and thickness 5 cm. Find the length of the pipe.

    A)  112.5m

    B)  112m

    C)  212m

    D)  312m

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Volume of block \[=(4.4\times 2.6\times 1)\] \[=(440\times 260\times 100)c{{m}^{3}}\] Let \[r=\] internal radius of pipe =30 cm And \[R=\] external radius of pipe             \[=(30+5)cm=35cm\] \[\therefore \]Volume of iron used \[=\pi h({{R}^{2}}-{{r}^{2}})\] \[=\pi h({{35}^{2}}-{{30}^{2}})=\pi h(325)\] Volume of iron pipe = Volume of block \[\Rightarrow 325\pi h=440\times 260\times 100\] \[\Rightarrow h=440\times 260\times 100\times \frac{7}{22}\times \frac{1}{325}\] \[\Rightarrow h=11200cm=112m\]
