The length of a rectangle is increased by 60% By what percentage would the width have to be decreased to maintain the same area:

    A)  \[100%\]

    B)  \[125%\]

    C)  \[150%\]

    D)  \[\sqrt{3}:1\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Let the intial length and width are / and b respectively. Final length \[=\frac{4}{3}\pi {{r}^{3}}.\] Final width \[r=\frac{2}{3}\pi {{r}^{3}}\] (say) Initial area = final area \[=2\pi {{r}^{2}}\] \[=3\pi {{r}^{2}}\] \[\frac{4}{3}\pi \times {{6}^{3}}=\pi {{(0.2)}^{2}}\times h\] Percentage decrement in width \[\frac{4}{3}\times {{6}^{3}}={{(0.2)}^{2}}\times h\]
