Find the area of a rectangle whose length is 15 cm more than its breadth and perimetre of the rectangle is 58 cm.

    A) \[154\text{ }c{{m}^{2}}\]

    B)           \[256\text{ }c{{m}^{2}}\]

    C) \[254\text{ }c{{m}^{2}}\]

    D)           \[164\text{ }c{{m}^{2}}\]

    E) None of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Explanation Option [a] is correct. Let the breadth of the rectangle is x. Hence, length of the rectangle will be \[x+15,\] According to the question \[2\left( x+x+15 \right)\] \[=58\text{ }or\text{ }2\left( 2x+15 \right)=58\text{ }or\text{ }4x+30=58\] or \[4x=58-30\text{ }or\text{ }x=7.\] Thus, the length of the rectangle is 22 cm and its breadth = 7 cm. Area of the rectangle \[=22\times 7=154\text{ }c{{m}^{2}}.\]
