Glass windows may be broken by a far away explosion. Explain why.

    Answer:

A distant explosion sends out sound waves of large amplitude in all directions. As these sound waves strike the glass windows, they set them into forced oscillations. Since glass is brittle, so the glass windows break as soon as they start oscillating due to forced oscillations.
