Value of x in pair of linear equations \[36x+24y=702\]and \[24x+36y=558\]is

    A)  \[\frac{33}{2}\]

    B)  \[\frac{145}{7}\]

    C)  16

    D)         17

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    We have, \[36x+24y=702\] and \[24x+36y=558\] Simplifying above equations, we get           \[6x+4y=117\]            ?...(1)            and \[4x+6y=93\]              ?...(2) Multiplying eq. (1) by 3, eq. (2) by -2 and then; adding, we get                            \[18x+12y-8x-12y=351-186\] \[\Rightarrow \]            \[10x=165\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[x=\frac{165}{10}=\frac{33}{2}\]
