In a lottery, there are 10 prizes and 45 blanks. A lottery is drawn at random. What is the probability of getting a prize?

    A) \[\frac{1}{10}\]

    B)  \[\frac{2}{5}\]

    C)  \[\frac{2}{11}\]

    D)  \[\frac{5}{7}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    (c): P (getting a prize) \[=\frac{10}{\left( 10+45 \right)}=\frac{10}{55}=\frac{2}{11}.\] Let E = event of getting a face card. Then, \[n\left( E \right)=12.\] \[\therefore p(E)=\frac{n(E)}{n(S)}=\frac{5}{200}=\frac{1}{40}\]
