    Answer:

    (a) The two subsidiary ports of India are Haldia port to relieve the congestion of Kolkata port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port to relieve the pressure of Mumbai Port.
    (b) Mumbai port is the biggest port with a spacious, natural and well sheltered harbour. It handles the maximum trade both in terms of export and import and act as a hub port for the western region.
    Kolkata is a riverine port, a tidal port also that serves a very large and rich hinterland of Ganga-Brahmaputra basin. Due to sedimentation along the delta it requires constant dredging of Hooghly river.
