    Four facts about the development of aluminium industry in India are:
    (i)  Aluminium smelting is the second most important metallurgical industry in India.              
    (ii) It is used as a substitute for steel copper, lead and zinc in many industries.
    (iii) It requires bauxite, a heavy raw material and abundant electricity in close proximity to each other.
    (iv) In India aluminium plants are located mainly in Orissa, (NALCO, BALCO), West Bengal, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
