What is the importance of fertilizer industry. The location of this industry is almost widespread throughout the country. Why?

Answer:

(i) India produces difference kinds of fertilisers like nitrogenous, phosphatic, ammonium phosphate, potash, etc.

(ii) India is the third largest producer of nitrogenous fertilisers but in the case of potash it mainly imports from other countries.

(iii) Most of the fertiliser plants are there in public sector. Green revolution has contributed to the growth of this industry with the increased use of fertilisers, insecticides, etc. Important centres of fertiliser industry are widespread throughout the country mainly in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh etc.
