How does rising minimum support price affect food security?

    Answer:

An increase in minimum support price induces farmers particularly in surplus producing states to divert their production from coarse food grains to production of wheat and rice. (a) Coarse food grains are the staple food of the poor. A fall in their production has led to greater food insecurity. (b) The intensive utilisation of water also led to fall in water table thus threatening a fall in agricultural development. (c) The rising of minimum support price also increases the maintenance cost of procuring food grains by the government.
