    Sequence of events which took place in the Sukhpar village:
    (a) Ramji with Bharat, Sarpanch, Talathi and Gauri attended the cluster meeting on Disaster Management. The next meeting was to be organised by Ramji and Sarpanch in Sukhpar village.
    (b) In the Sukhpar meeting Ramji explained the entire process of Community Based Disaster Management. Village Disaster Management Committee was formed, followed by Disaster Management Team.         
    (c)The group discussed and formed list ofactivi!ies. Bharal and volunteers captured and carried out Participatory Rural Appraisal.
    (d) DMC of Sukhpar had their first meeting to discuss training programme of DMT membcrs.
    (e) In the next meeting, Ramji gave a list of institutions which offered help in trainning the DMT members. Building earthquake/cyclone resistant houses, retrofitting of dilapidated structures and roof rain-water harvesting was also discussed.
    (f) After six months Sukhpar looked different. In spirit It was much more confident community.
    DMC decided to develop Disaster Preparedness Plan Response Plan for Snkhpar.
    (g) Mock-drill for cyclone was carried out. Every man and woman stood by his and her duty. The mock-drill was a big success.
    The significance of the story is that people of Sukhpn understood the importance of community planning for disaster. They realised that it is the community that can ensure that proper prepared measures and quick responses can reduce the disaster risk.
