    Solution :

        Time taken by Amit to do the work = 4 days Time taken by Sumit to do the work = 6 days \[\therefore \]    Work done by Amit in 1 day \[=\frac{1}{4}\] Work done by Sumit in 1 day \[=\frac{1}{6}\] So, work done by Amit and Sumit in one day \[\frac{1}{4}+\frac{1}{6}=\frac{3+2}{12}=\frac{5}{12}\] Hence, Amit and Sumit can do the piece of work \[\frac{12}{5}\] in days i.e., \[2\frac{2}{5}\] days.
