    B)  if the data in statement .U alone are sufficient to answer the question while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.

    C)              if the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.

    D)              if the data in both the statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the

    E)              if the data in both the statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

    Ram's mother's age = Ram's father's age - 5 Now, From I. Ram's father's present age = 55 + 7 = 62 years \[\therefore \]Ram's mother's age = 62 - 5 = 57 Hence I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.  From II. \[\frac{R+3}{Ram's\,\,mother's\,\,age+3}=\frac{2}{5}\] \[\Rightarrow \]5R+ 15 = (Ram's mother's age + 3) x 2 = 2 \[\times \] Ram's mother's age + 6 From I and II. 5R + 15 = 2 \[\times \] 57+6 \[\Rightarrow \] 5R = 120- 15 =105 \[\therefore \] R = 21 years \[\therefore \]Reqd ratio= \[\frac{21+4}{62-12}=\frac{25}{50}=\frac{1}{2}=1:2\] Hence both are necessary to answer the question
