DNA is more stable genetic material because

(a) The 2?-OH group in the nucleotides of RNA is a reactive group and makes RNA labile and easily degradable. However, DNA is chemically less reactive and structurally more stable.

(b) The presence of thymine in place of uracil also confers more stability to DNA, i.e. it does not change in physiology with age.

(c) Two strands of DNA are complementary to each other and even if separated by heat, come together, when suitable conditions are created. On the other hand, RNA is usually single-stranded.
