After attending a lecture on various environmental issues, Neeta asked her mother to dispose wastes of kitchen and other wastes like polythene, etc., into two different dustbins.
    (i) What is the reason for such an arrangement? Also differentiate between the two types of wastes.
(ii) Which values have been shown by Neeta?

    Answer:

    (i) Segregation of wastes into two categories, i.e. biodegradable (kitchen wastes, paper, etc.) and non-biodegradable (plastic bags, cans, etc.) helps in proper disposal by suitable methods. It will reduce pollution.
Differences between biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes are as follows
    Biodegradable wastes Non-biodegradable wastes
The wastes that can be decomposed or degraded rapidly by microbes, so that they do not accumulate in the environment. The wastes that cannot be decomposed by microbial action, so they pile up and cause environmental pollution.
(ii) Neeta is a concerned environment friendly person.
She is alert and responsible towards environmental issues and their solutions.
