Name the phenomenon in which offspring shows resemblance to both the parents. Explain with the help of a well-known example.

    Answer:

Codominance is the phenomenon in which two alleles express themselves independently when present together in a single organism. They do not show dominant-recessive relationship, but an intermediate condition appears in the heterozygote. Thus, it is true to say that codominance is the phenomenon in which offspring shows resemblance to both the parents. It can be explained with the example of AB blood group in humans.                 Alleles for blood group A \[({{I}^{A}})\] and blood group B \[({{I}^{B}})\] produce their effect individually forming blood group A and B, respectively. However, when they are present together, both express their own type of sugars, i.e. they are codominant. In such individuals, they produce a new blood group, i.e. AB. It is characterised by the presence of both antigen A \[(from\,\,{{I}^{A}})\] and B \[(from\,\,{{I}^{B}})\] on erythrocyte's surface.
