They protect wildlife, maintain biodiversity, help in the pollination of flowers by giving shelter to different insects and organisms and provide sites for the storage of carbon. In hilly areas, the forest cover plays a vital role in checking soil erosion, percolation and recharging groundwater, checking landslides and other natural calamities. From aesthetic, cultural and spiritual point of view, it is also not correct to cut down trees for our own benefits.
