Describe the functions of the following:
    (i) Epididymis
    (ii) Vas deferens
    (iii) Seminiferous tubules
    (iv) Vagina
    (v) Trophoblast
    OR
    Study the given figure.
    (i)  Pick out and name the cells that undergo spermiogenesis.
(ii) Name 'A' and 'B' cells. What is the difference between them with reference to the number of chromosome?
(iii) Pick out and name the motile cells.
(iv) What is 'F' cell? Mention its function.
    (v) Name the structure of which the given diagram is apart.

    Answer:

    (i) Epididymis: Maturation of spermatids to functional spermatozoa takes place here and the sperms are stored temporarily, become motile and mature in 1 -2 months and acquire the capacity of fertilization.
(ii) Vas Deferens: It stores and transports the sperms from the testes to the outside through urethra.
(iii) Seminiferous Tubules: Inside each testis there are 250 compartments called testicular folliculi/lobules each having 1-3 seminiferous tubules. The sperms are produced inside these tubules and pass outside the testis.
(iv) Vagina: It receives the semen from the male penis. It serves as the birth canal during parturition.
    (v) Trophoblast: It is the inner layer of blastocyst, which sends finger-like projections called chorionic villi into uterine stroma. Chorionic villi and uterine tissues jointly form the placenta.
    OR
    (i) D-Spermatids.
    (ii) A-Spermiogonium, B-Primary spermatocyte.
They both are diploid and have 46 chromosomes each.
    (iii) E-Spermatozoa.
(iv) F-Sertoli cell. It provides nutrition to the germ cells.
    (v) Seminiferous tubule.
