Define (i) Exons and Introns (ii) Splicing.

    Answer:

    (i) The coding sequences or expressed sequences on the monocistronic m-RNA of eukaryotes are called as exons whereas the non-coding, non-functional sequences interrupting the exons are called introns or intervening sequences.
(ii) Splicing is a process where the primary transcript/heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hn RNA) is subjected to the removal of introns and joining of exons in a defined order.
