      Give one chemical test to distinguish between the following pairs of compounds. (i) Secondary and tertiary amines                             (ii) Aniline and benzylamine                                      [1+1]

      Reaction  with  benzene  sulphonyl  chloride (Hinsberg's reagent) (i) Secondary amine () N.N-di alkyI benzene sulphonamide is formed. It is insoluble in alkali due to lack of acidic hydrogen. Tertiary amine () It does not react with Hinsberg's reagent.  (ii) Aniline [1] It gives dye test. Add dilute to aniline in HCl and cool at 273K. Add ice-cold alkaline solution of phenol. Bright orange dye is formed.                 It does not give dye test but with  it forms benzyl alcohol with liberation of . [1]
