If a discount of 10% is given on the marked price of an article, the shopkeeper gets a profit of 20%. Find his percentage profit if he offers a discount of 20% on the same article.

    A)  \[6\frac{1}{3}%\]

    B)  \[6\frac{2}{3}%\]

    C)         \[6\frac{1}{4}%\]

    D)         \[5\frac{2}{3}%\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Suppose the marked price = Rs 100 Then,     selling price at 10% discount = (100 -10) = Rs 90 Since, he gets 20% profit, his cost price \[=90\,\left( \frac{100}{120} \right)\] = Rs 75 Now, at 20% discount, the selling price = (100 - 20) = Rs 80 Thus, his percentage profit \[=\frac{80-75}{75}\times 100=\frac{500}{75}\] \[=\frac{20}{3}=6\frac{2}{3}%\]
