    Solution :

    Let the total distance be x km. Then,    \[\frac{2}{5}x=1200\,\Rightarrow \,x=3000\,\text{km}\] Distance covered by car \[=\left( 3000\times \frac{1}{3} \right)\,\text{km}\,=1000\,\text{km}\] \[\therefore \] Distance travelled by train = [3000 - (1000 + 1200)] = 800 km
