    [a] The Greater Himalaya is also called the Himadri and the Bahirgiri in the Ancient Indian Literature. These are the highest mountain range in the world with about 6100 m average height. This mountain range extends from Indus in North-West to the Namcha Barwa in North-East. Thaga La (Uttarakhand) and Jelep La are important passes in Silete in Greater Himalaya. The Greater Himalaya has many peaks which are above 8000 m. Nanga Parbat (8126 m) and Annapurna (8026 m) are important among them. This mountain range is mostly snow bound during the year, having a number of glaciers.
