It consists of 1 chairperson and 11 members of which 2 members i.e. Secretary Department of Legal Affairs and Legislative Department are the ex-officio members, It undertake research in law and review of existing laws in India for making reforms therein and enacting new legislation. It function is to identify laws which are no longer relevant and recommending for the repeal of obsolete and unnecessary enactments; to suggest enacting new legislations to implement the DPSP and to attain the objectives set out in the Preamble of the Constitution.
