Secretion is stimulated by the mechanical pressure of partly digested food in the intestine. It helps in the breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose, protein into amino acids. Intestinal juice also contains hormones, digestive enzymes, mucus, substances to neutralise hydrochloric acid coming from the stomach.
