Direction: In each question below are given three statements followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.
Statements:     Some foods are beverages. No beverage is a fast-food. All fast foods are sweets, Conclusions:    I. Some sweets are not beverages. II. All foods can be sweets.

    A)  if only conclusion I follows.

    B)  if only conclusion II follows.

    C)  if either conclusion I or II follows.

    D)  if neither conclusion I nor II follows.

    E)  if both conclusion I and II follow.

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

    No beverage is a fast-food (E) + All fast-food are sweets (A) = E + A = O* = Some sweets are not beverages (O*). Hence conclusion I follows. Again, Some foods are beverages (I) + No beverage is a fast-food (E) = I + E = O = Some foods are not fast-food (O) + All fast-food are sweets (A) = O + A = No conclusion but the possibility in II exists. Hence conclusion II follows.
