What is the value of a two-digit number? I.                The sum of the digits of the number is 10. II.               The digit at the tens place is 150% of the digit at the units place.

    A)              if the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question.

    B)              if the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.

    C)              if the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.

    D)              if the data in both statement I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.

    E)  if the data in both statement I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

    From I and II. Let the number be 10x + y Now, x + y = 10            ... (i) \[\therefore x=\frac{150}{100}y=\frac{3}{2}y\]   ?(ii) From (i) and (ii), we get \[\frac{3}{2}y+y=10\] or, 3y + 2y = 20 or, 5y = 20 or, y = 4 \[\therefore \] x = 6 \[\therefore \] Number\[=10x+y=10\times 6+4=64\]
