    The length and breadth of a rectangle are m the ratio of 9:5. When the sides of the rectangle are extended on each side by 5 metres the ratio of length to breadth becomes 5:3. What is the area of the original rectangle?

    A)  1170 sqm

    B)  1255 sqm

    C) 1575 sqm

    D) 1035 sqm

    E)  1125 sqm

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

    Let the length be x and breadth be y. Then, \[\frac{x}{y}=\frac{9}{5}\] or, 5x = 9y                                         ...(i) Now \[\frac{x+5}{y+5}=\frac{5}{3}\]                                        ...(ii) Solving (i) and (ii), we get \[\therefore \] x =45 /and y==25-area of the rectangle\[=45\times 25=1125sqm\]
