The ratio of two positive numbers P and Q is 3 : 4. Now P is increased by 20% and 2 is added to it. Q is tripled and 2 is added to it. The ratio of the resultant P to resultant Q becomes\[\frac{3}{7}\] . What is the original value of Q?

    A)  7.5

    B)  5.5

    C)    10

    D)  16

    E)  None of these

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

    P  :  Q 3x   4x Now, \[3x\times \frac{120}{100}+2:4x\times 3+2\] \[=\left( \frac{18x}{5}+2 \right):(12x+2)\] \[=(3.6x+2):(12x+12)\] According to the question \[\frac{3.6x+2}{12x+2}=\frac{3}{7}\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[25.2x+14=36x+6=36x+6\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[10.8x=8\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[x=\frac{8}{10.8}=\frac{80}{108}=\frac{20}{27}\] \[\therefore \]\[Q=4x=\frac{80}{27}\]
