Direction: Each question consists of four statements followed by five conclusions. Consider the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions definitely does not logically follow from the given statements using all statements together and mark that conclusion as your answer.
    Statements:
    All apples are oranges.
    Some oranges are guavas.
    All guavas are papayas.
    No papaya is a banana.
    Conclusions:

    A)  Some papayas are not guavas.

    B)  All apples belong bananas is a possibility.

    C)  Some bananas are definitely not guavas.

    D)  All oranges being bananas is a possibility.

    E)  Some oranges are papayas.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    All guavas are papayas (a) \[\to \] conversion \[\to \] Some papayas are guavas (I). Hence conclusion (a) may follow. Again, All apples are oranges (a) + Some oranges are not bananas (O) = A + O = No conclusion. But the possibility in 2) exists Hence (b) follows. All guavas are papayas (a) + No papaya is a banana (e) = A + E = E = No guava is a banana. Hence conclusion (c) follows. Some oranges are guavas (I) + All guavas are papayas (a) = I + A = I = Some oranges are papayas (I) + No papaya is a banana (e) = 1 + E = O = Some oranges are not bananas (O). Hence conclusion (d) does not follow. Some oranges are guavas (I) + All guavas are papayas (a) = I + A = I = Some oranges are papayas (I). Hence conclusion (e) follows.
