Direction: In each question below arc given three statements followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.
    Statements: Some scanners are printers.
    No printer is a phone.
    All faxes are scanners.
Conclusions: I. At least some faxes are printers.
II. Some faxes are not phones.
III. Some phones are definitely not printers.

    A)  Only III follows

    B)  Only either I or II follows

    C)  Only 1 follows

    D)  Only II follows

    E)  None of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

All faxes are scanners  + Some scanners are printers (I) = A + I = No conclusion. Hence I does not follow. No printer is a phone \[\to \] conversion\[\to \] No phone is a printer \[\to \] implication \[\to \] Some phones are not printers (O). Hence conclusion III follows. Again, Some scanners are printers (I) + No printer is a phone =I+E=O=Some scanners are not phones (O). Now, All faxes arc scanners  + Some scanners are not phones (O) = A + O = No conclusion. Hence II does not follow.
