  • question_answer
In an a.c. circuit the voltage applied is \[E={{E}_{0}}\sin \omega t.\] The resulting current in the circuit is \[l={{l}_{0}}\sin \left( \omega t-\frac{\pi }{2} \right).\]The power consumption in the circuit is given by

    A) \[P=\frac{{{E}_{0}}{{l}_{0}}}{\sqrt{2}}\]

    B) \[P=zero\]

    C) \[P=\frac{{{E}_{0}}{{l}_{0}}}{2}\]

    D) \[P=\sqrt{2}{{E}_{0}}{{l}_{0}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Here current lags the voltage by \[\frac{\pi }{2}\] i.e. circuit is purely inductive, and hence power consumption in the circuit is 0.
