Fluorescently tagged protein was used to study protein secretion in yeast. Fluorescence was observed in:
    (I)  The Golgi
    (II) The secretory vesicles
    (III) The rough ER
Which of the following describes best the sequence in which these events occur?

    A) (I)\[\to \](II)\[\to \](III)

    B) (II)\[\to \](III)\[\to \](I)

    C) (III)\[\to \](I)\[\to \](II)

    D) (III)\[\to \](II)\[\to \](I)

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Rough endoplasmic reticulum is actively involved in protein synthesis and secretion. Once the protein molecules are synthesised byribosomes on the endoplasmic reticulum and collected in the lumen, they are pinched off in the form of vesicles. These vesicles often move to the Golgi apparatus for additional protein packaging and distribution. Vesicles from the ER fuse with the cis face of the Golgi apparatus and move towards the maturing face. These proteins are modified in the cisternae of the Golgi apparatus before they are released from its Trans face in the form of secretory vesicles for their transport within or outside the cell.
