    Ram covers a certain distance by train at 25 km/h and the same distance on foot at 4 km/h. If the time taken by him for the whole journey be 5 h and 48 min, how much total distance did he cover?

    Solution :

    Let the total distance covered by him be x km. Distance covered by train \[=\frac{x}{2}\]km and the distance covered on foot \[=\frac{x}{2}\]km Time taken to cover \[\frac{x}{2}\]by train\[=\frac{x}{2\times 25}=\frac{x}{50}\]h Time taken to cover \[\frac{x}{2}\]on foot \[=\frac{x}{2\times 4}=\frac{x}{8}\]h According to the question,\[\frac{x}{50}+\frac{x}{8}=5\frac{48}{60}\] \[\frac{4x+25x}{200}=\frac{29}{5}\] \[x=\frac{29}{5}\times \frac{200}{29}\] \[x=40\]km
