    Solution :

    Let the parallel sides be \[5x\]and \[3x\]metres. Area of trapezium \[=\frac{1}{2}\] (sum of parallel sides \[\times \] distance between them) \[\Rightarrow \]   \[1440=\frac{1}{2}(5x+3x)\times 24\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[12\times 8x=1440\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{1440}{12\times 8}=15\] \[\therefore \]The longer parallel side \[=5x=5\times 15=75\,\,\text{m}\]
