    Solution :

    Case I. Discount = 40% \[\Rightarrow \]Selling price = 60% of 1000 \[=\frac{60}{100}\times 1000\] = Rs. 600 Case II. Two successive discounts are of 35% and 5%. \[\Rightarrow \]Selling price = 65% of (95% of 1000) \[=\frac{65}{100}\times \frac{95}{100}\times 1000\]= Rs. 617.50 \[\therefore \]Difference = Rs. \[(617.50-600)\]= Rs. 1750
