    Solution :

    Let man's salary be Rs. x. \[\therefore \] His expenditure on items of daily use\[=\frac{70x-21x}{80}\]= Rs. \[\frac{49x}{80}\] According to the question, \[\therefore \]\[\frac{49x}{80}=2940\Rightarrow x=\frac{2940\times 80}{49}\]= Rs. 4800
