  • question_answer
The product of two consecutive old numbers is 28899. What is the square root of the smaller number?

    A)  7

    B)  11

    C)  13

    D)  None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Suppose the numbers are x and \[(x+2)\] Then from question itself \[x\times (x+2)=28899\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{x}^{2}}+2x=28899\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{x}^{2}}+2x-2899=0\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{x}^{2}}+171x-169x-28899=0\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x\,\,(x+171)-169\,\,(x+171)=0\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[(x-169)(x+171)=0\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-169=0\] x = 169 Positive value So,       square root of small numbers = 13
