    Solution :

[a] With the estimated area of about 7, 35, 56,000 sq. km. The Indian Ocean is the 3rd largest ocean in the world. Indian Ocean is significant for India in a greater damnation as it lies just south of India. The meridian of Cape of Tasmania (143 degree east) forms the boundary line between the Indian and Atlantic Ocean. In the south, it extends to the Antarctic continent from where it merges with the Atlantic and the Pacific. The International Organization has recognized the coast of Antarctica as the southern extreme of the Indian Ocean and the Tropic of Cancer forms the northern most boundaries. From the eastern coast of Africa and the shores of Persian Gulf to the Strait of Malacca, no other country rivals India's dominant location in the Indian Ocean. The strategic importance of this ocean further increases, as it is accessible from the east, west and through narrow straits along the Red sea, and the Persian Gulf in the west and along the Strait of Malacca and the Timor and Arafura Sea in the east.
