[b] The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) is the oldest trade union federations in India and one of the five largest. It was founded on 31 October 1920 in Bombay by N. M. Joshi, Lala Lajpat Rai, Joseph Baptista and a few others and, until 1945 when unions became organised on party lines, it was the primary trade union organisation in India. British Indian Association was created after amalgamating the "Landholders Society" and "British India Society" on 31 October 1851. This was the first political organization that brought the indian together. The President of the first committee of this organization was Raja Radhakanta Deb, while Debendranath Tagore was its secretary. The Servants of India Society was formed in Pune, Maharashtra, on June 12, 1905 by Gopal Krishna Gokhale, who left the Deccan Education Society to form this association. Along with him were a small group of educated Indians, as Natesh Appaji Dravid, Gopal Krishna Deodhar and Anant Patwardhan who wanted to promote social and human development and overthrow the British rule in India. In September 1915, Annie Besant launched the Home Rule League, modelling demands for India on Irish models.
