    Consider the following statements:
    1. Natural gas occurs in the Gondwana belts.
    2. Mica occurs in abundance in Kadarma.
    3. Dharwars are famous for petroleum. Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

    A)  1 and 2

    B)  2 only

    C)  2 and 3

    D)  None of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

[b] The occurrence of natural gas and petroleum is always associated with sedimentary rocks of the tertiary period. The Gondwana belts belong to the upper Palaeozoic and Mesozoic periods and the Dharwar rocks belong to the late Archean period. Both these rock systems are much older than the sedimentary rocks of the tertiary period. Thus these rocks are almost completely devoid of petroleum and natural gas. Kadarma in Jharkhand is very famous for mica mining.
