    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

President's term stands automatically extended beyond the expiry date if his successor is not elected or does not assume office. When a vacancy occurs in the President's office due to his death, resignation or removal or otherwise, the Vice-president acts as the President until a new President is elected. An election to fill such vacancy should be held within six months from the date of occurrence of such vacancy. Shri. V.V. Giri acted as President after the death of Dr. Zakir Hussain in 1969 and Shri B.D. Jatti acted as President when Shri Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed expired in 1977.
