  • question_answer
The displacement (in meters) of a body varies with time t (in seconds as\[y=(2/3){{t}^{2}}+16+2.\] How long does the body take to come to rest?

    A)  8 seconds

    B)  10 seconds

    C)  12 seconds

    D)       16 seconds

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    \[y=-\frac{2}{3}{{t}^{2}}+16\,t+2.\] Comparing it with \[s=ut+\frac{1}{2}a{{t}^{2}},\]we have \[u=16\,m/s\]and \[\frac{a}{2}=-\frac{2}{3}\]or \[a=-\frac{3}{4}\,m/{{s}^{2}}.\]For a body to come  to rest, the final velocity \[v=0.\]Using these values of u, v and a in relation \[v=u+\]at we have 0 =\[0=16-\frac{4}{3}t\]or \[t=12\sec .\]
