  • question_answer
A raft of wood of mass 120kg floats in water. The weight that can be put on the raft to make Pt just sink, should be (draft\[=600kg/{{m}^{3}}\]):

    A)  80 kg

    B)  50 kg

    C)  60 kg

    D)  30 kg

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Volume of raft is given as \[V=\frac{m}{d}\] Here,      \[m=120kg,\,d=600kg/{{m}^{3}}\]                         \[V=\frac{120}{600}=0.2{{m}^{3}}\] Where the raft is immersed fully in water then weight of water displaced is             \[{{W}_{original}}=V{{d}_{water}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]            \[{{W}_{original}}=0.2\times {{10}^{3}}=200kg.\] Clearly, the additional weight, which can be put on the raft.
