  • question_answer
A body cools from \[{{60}^{o}}C\] to \[{{50}^{o}}C\] in 10 min. If the room temperature is \[{{25}^{o}}C\]and assuming Newton's law of cooling to hold good, the temperature of the body at the end of the next 10 min will be:

    A)  \[{{38.5}^{o}}C\]

    B)  \[{{40}^{o}}C\]

    C)  \[{{42.85}^{o}}C\]

    D)  \[{{45}^{o}}C\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    According to Newton's law of cooling rate of cooling \[\propto (T-{{T}_{0}})\], where T is the average temperature 1in the given time interval. Hence \[\frac{(60-50)}{10}\propto \left( \frac{60+50}{2}-25 \right)\]             and      \[\left( \frac{50-T}{10} \right)\propto \left( \frac{50+T}{2}-25 \right)\] Solving we get,    \[T={{42.85}^{o}}C\]
