(i) Attenuation The loss of strength of a signal while propagating through a medium is known as attenuation.

(ii) Demodulation The process of retrieval of information from the carrier wave at the receiver is termed as demodulation. This is the reverse process of modulation.

(iii) Amplification The process of increasing the amplitude and strength of a signal is called amplification. This is done by using an electronic circuit called amplifier. Amplification is done to compensate for the attenuations of signals in the communication medium.
