A proton has spin and magnetic moment just like an electron. Why then its effect is neglected in magnetism of materials?

    Answer:

Since, the net magnetic moment of electron \[={{\mu }_{e}}\propto \frac{1}{{{m}_{e}}}\] Where, \[{{m}_{e}}\]: mass of electron. The net magnetic moment of proton \[={{\mu }_{p}}\propto \frac{1}{{{m}_{p}}}\] Where, \[{{m}_{p}}\]: mass of electron. \[\frac{{{\mu }_{e}}}{{{\mu }_{p}}}=\frac{{{m}_{p}}}{{{m}_{e}}}\]             As,        \[{{m}_{e}}<<{{m}_{p}}\Rightarrow {{\mu }_{e}}>>{{\mu }_{p}}\] Thus, as the value of the magnetic moment of electron is much more as compared to the magnetic moment of proton so the effect of proton is neglected.
